Sharp drop in krathong waste this year, BMA says

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has reported a sharp reduction in Loy Krathong waste this year, with 82.76% of krathong made from natural materials.
BMA spokesman Ekwaranyu Amrapal said city officials collected 391,027 krathong from 110 locations across the capital between 8pm on Wednesday and 5am yesterday morning — a 24% decrease from 2024. Of these, 323,626 (or 82.76%) were made from natural materials, including 39,103 from bread, and only 28,298 (or 7.23%) from foam.
He said the downward trend has continued for three consecutive years.
