PM stands firm on Cambodia

No talks until troops pulled from border

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has declared that Thailand will not enter into negotiations with Cambodia over border disputes until Cambodian military forces and so-called “human shields” are fully withdrawn from contested areas.

Speaking during a visit to Si Sa Ket, along the Thai-Cambodian border, Mr Anutin addressed several issues relating to the closure of border checkpoints and the construction of border fencing.

The prime minister said he has already made it clear with Thai military leaders that they have full authority to act on security matters.

“The incoming government will fully support and respect the military's decisions,” he said, adding the civilian administration will focus on diplomatic efforts and formal negotiations.

Mr Anutin said Thailand will not accept any preconditions from Cambodia, adding unequivocally that only Thailand’s terms will be considered.
