Phiphat green lights SRT legal action in land row

Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has authorised the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to proceed with lawsuits against individuals occupying land in the Khao Kradong area of Buri Ram province.
He said legal action would be carried out on a plot-by-plot basis, stressing that no special treatment would be given despite both the Interior and Transport ministries being controlled by the Bhumjaithai Party (BJT).
On his first day in office yesterday, Mr Phiphat said he had consulted with SRT Governor Veeris Amarapala following an Interior Ministry statement on the long-running dispute. The SRT, he noted, is legally obliged to sue occupiers of all 995 contested plots.
