Omoda & Jaecoo to ramp up EV exports

Omoda & Jaecoo (Thailand), a subsidiary of Chinese state-owned electric vehicle maker Chery Automobile, is keen to export battery EVs from its factory in Thailand, aiming to benefit from the state promotion of BEV exports under its incentive scheme.
The company is interested in BEV exports after the National EV Policy Committee resolved in July to relax BEV production requirements for companies participating in the EV3.0 and EV3.5 incentive schemes if they produce BEVs for export.
EV3.0 and EV3.5 require manufacturers to produce EVs locally to compensate for vehicle imports since the start of the EV subsidy programmes in 2022 prior to commencing local production.
Meeting the requirements has been an uphill task for manufacturers due to the stagnant car market.
