Minister clarifies steel release decision

Industry Minister Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana yesterday clarified the release of steel products from Sin Ke Yuan Steel Co, stating the released products were unrelated to the State Audit Office building collapse.

He said the decision to withdraw the seizure was made before he assumed office, and the first release was approved on Sept 12, involving 16,950 steel rods that had passed quality inspections.

Mr Thanakorn said the seized steel was related to a factory explosion and fire on Dec 18 last year, not from the collapsed building as circulated on social media.
