Cabinet greenlights B2.44bn for military

The cabinet has approved an allocation of 2.44 billion baht from the central fund for the 2026 fiscal year to reinforce the military and shore up border security amid ongoing fighting along the Thai-Cambodia border.

Government spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat said the budget, requested by the army and the navy, is intended to support national defence readiness and respond to emergency security threats as the government gives the highest priority to safeguarding national security and people's safety.

The approval came as clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border entered its ninth day, with the death toll on the Thai side rising to 17 soldiers. The situation remained volatile, and exchanges of gunfire were reported in several areas yesterday morning.

Mr Siripong said that the details of spending could not be disclosed for security reasons.
