EU 'isolated' at COP30 over fossil fuels

The European Union finds itself “isolated” in rejecting a draft proposal by COP30 host Brazil that makes no mention of “fossil fuels’ with some member states weighing a walkout, a delegate from the 27-country bloc said Friday.

A fight over phasing out oil, coal and gas has been a core outstanding issue at the annual UN climate meeting, this year hosted in the Brazilian Amazon city of Belem.
“The Europeans will be isolated, that much is clear,’ the source said. Some fear being held responsible for the summit's failure, the source added, speaking on the sidelines of an emergency closed-door meeting.
