Date set for Thaksin verdict

The Criminal Court has scheduled Aug 22 for handing down its verdict in the lèse-majesté and computer crime case against former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, his lawyer said.
Thaksin, 74, is facing charges under Section 112 of the Criminal Code and the Computer Crimes Act for remarks he made during a 2015 interview with South Korean media while in self-imposed exile.
Thaksin arrived at the Criminal Court on Ratchadaphisek Road yesterday in a black-and-silver Mercedes-Maybach and was accompanied by his lawyer, Winyat Chartmontree. Security was tight, with police and court officers guarding the area, while the media were barred from recording inside.
