Cane farmers win support

The Office of the Cane and Sugar Board (OCSB) has announced measures to support sugar cane farmers affected by the ongoing border tensions between Thailand and Cambodia that have disrupted farming activities in five provinces.

The conflict has impacted more than 260,000 rai of farmland in Surin, Si Sa Ket, Ubon Ratchathani, Buri Ram and Sa Kaeo, leaving local farmers unable to access their fields or harvest crops for delivery to sugar mills, said OCSB secretary-general Bainoy Suwanchatree.
“The Industry Ministry, sugar factories and cane farmers met in late December to closely monitor the situation and agreed to provide assistance,” Mr Bainoy said.
