Banpu to take advantage of rising US electricity demand

SET-listed Banpu Power Plc is taking advantage of the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) technology-driven power demand in the US to strengthen its electricity retail business.

AI consumes a substantial amount of electricity, presenting a good opportunity for Banpu to grow in the power sector after setting up a gas exploration and production business in America, said Issara Niropas, chief executive of Banpu Power.

The company has entered the electricity market, overseen by the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which manages the electricity grid to serve most of the southern US state.

"Electricity demand from the AI sector is outpacing supply in Texas," said Mr Issara.
