Anutin urges Xi to buy Thai rice

Apec talks highlight trade, ties, tourism
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has reminded Chinese President Xi Jinping to proceed with a 500,000-tonne rice export deal during their bilateral meeting at the 32nd Apec Economic Leaders' Meeting in Gyeongju, South Korea, yesterday.
Government spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat revealed details of the talks between Mr Anutin and Mr Xi.
Mr Siripong said Mr Anutin took the opportunity to closely follow up on negotiations regarding China's potential purchase of 500,000 tonnes of Thai rice. With China consuming nearly 150 million tonnes of rice annually, prospects for the deal are viewed positively. The discussion took place at the Kolon Hotel.
On his Facebook page, Mr Siripong shared a short video clip of the two leaders speaking through interpreters, noting in the caption that, after the discussion concluded and the pair shook hands, Mr Anutin added with a smile, "Don't forget to buy rice."
