6-year sentence for ex-red shirt caught in bribery sting

Former red-shirt activist Yoswaris Chuklom, alias "Jeng Dokjik," has been sentenced to six years in prison, while prolific petitioner Srisuwan Janya and three accomplices have each received four-year sentences for attempting to extort the director-general of the Rice Department.
The Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases delivered the verdicts yesterday.
Yoswaris was convicted of malfeasance in office. Srisuwan, Phimnattha Chiraphut-thiphak, and two others — identified in reports only as Mr Ekalak and Ms Napatchapapha — were each sentenced for aiding and abetting the offence.
The court ruled there was sufficient evidence to convict all defendants. Key evidence included audio and video recordings, LINE chat messages, and banknote serial numbers matching those withdrawn by the Rice
Department director-general's wife for the handover.
On Jan 26 last year, Srisuwan was arrested during a sting operation at his house in Pathum Thani when an undercover police officer delivered 500,000 baht in cash to him.
Yoswaris and the other defendants were later arrested and charged.
