VAT fee is a 'disincentive' for parents

Wellington School cites'challenge'

Ayrshire's only private school has said that the introduction of VAT for private school fees is a “disincentive” to parents.

A report by the trustees of Wellington School in Ayr noted the “further challenge” caused by the introduction of VAT from 1 January 2025.

The report also revealed that the school had returned to “a relatively small” profit in 2023-24 following a few challenging years.

School fees rose by eight per cent in 2023-24 and the school has decided not to pass on the full VAT increase of 20 per cent to parents for 2024-25.
