United skipper admits side just wasn't good enough
Ben Dempsey says Ayr only had themselves to blame after blowing their promotion dream.
United were mugged on home soil as a Brian Graham double sent Thistle through in the play-offs.
The Honest Men looked to have done the hard graft with a first leg win at Firhill.
But they were toothless back at Somerset and failed to land a shot on target as the Jags progressed.
Skipper Dempsey said: "We are all frustrated and hugely disappointed.
"We came into the game with the advantage from the first leg and were fine for the first five minutes.
"We probably could've had two goals. Then their goal was really poor from our point of view defensively, a free man in the box which can't happen from a corner.
"Ultimately we had all the possession but we created nothing with it. There wasn't enough shots on target and then we were poor in both boxes and a sucker punch at the end.
"Once the first goal went in, I don't really know what happened to us.
