Rescue unit based at Glen Islay is saved ... three weeks before it was to shutdown
Vital charity Locals raised funds for the service
An Ayrshire dog rescue charity has been brought back from the brink thanks to “overwhelming” support.
Islay Dog Rescue, based at Glen Islay Farm near Cumnock, had just three weeks left before facing closure as its funds continued to dry up following an increase in costs.
However, an outpouring of support from the local community saw almost £12,000 donated in just over 24 hours.
Lorraine Jardine, founder of Islay Dog Rescue, said that they had been “totally and utterly blown away” following the weekend's events.
On Saturday, October 11, the charity posted an update they “hoped not to make” on social media which outlined the stark reality of their finances.
With just over £3,000 in the bank, the charity would have to close in three weeks time, bringing an end to their 15 years of rehoming pups in need in Ayrshire.
