Rhys is Dee-lighted with opening victory

Airdrie player-boss Rhys McCabe says his side beat Premiership Dundee in their Premier Sports Cup group C opener by playing their own game.

Chris Mochrie's 22nd-minute strike was enough to take all three points back to Lanarkshire, leaving McCabe, who played 90 minutes and assisted the winner, delighted.

Dundee dominated the ball, but Airdrie had chances, and in 14 minutes Alex King clipped the bar with a 20-yard effort. Airdrie took the lead when McCabe picked out Mochrie's run and he raced across defender Ryan Astley and finished high past goalkeeper Trevor Carson.

The Diamonds defence did well to block a few efforts, before Cade Melrose brilliantly denied Finlay Robertson.
