Cops to enforce Gujarat Police Act against public nuisance using CCTV network and special squads as city prepares for Olympic bid
Fresh off being crowned India's cleanest large city, Ahmedabad is setting its sights even higher. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the city police are joining forces for a major crackdown on public spitting, urination, and littering, activating long-standing provisions of the Gujarat Police Act to enforce a new standard of civic hygiene.
The initiative follows Ahmedabad's top ranking in the national Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 awards for cities with a population over 10 lakh. Now, building on this and its recent recognition as the country's safest city, officials are preparing to take the next bold step.
