Monsoon intensifies, state on high alert this week

Red alert in 8 districts; light to moderate showers with thunderstorms in A'bad

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in many parts of Gujarat over the next week, with the most intense spells expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, moving towards Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, is expected to strengthen the monsoon over the state. IMD officials said four weather systems are currently active, triggering heavy rain alerts.

For Tuesday, orange alert has been issued for Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Diu, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Dang, Valsad, Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli. At the same time, Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha, Vadodara, Narmada, Morbi, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Botad and Kutch have been placed under yellow alert.
