600-hectare enclosure in Banni grasslands ready for its newest cat
In a landmark chapter for Gujarat's wildlife, the state is all set to welcome the cheetah by 2026.
The Cheetah will be the fourth big cat species to call Gujarat its home, which has over 891 lions, 2,274 leopards and a tiger that has unexpectedly made Ratanmahal Wildlife Sanctuary its home for nine months.
The Gujarat Forest Department has confirmed that the 600-hectare cheetah enclosure in the Banni Grasslands of Kutch is ready, and the Centre is in advanced talks with an African nation to bring in the first batch of cheetahs.
