Actor Wants to Play a Romantic Lead in a 'Man Meets Woman'

Hollywood star Daniel Dae Kim has played everything from a plane crash survivor in Lost to a detective in Hawaii Five-0 and even a comic book villain in Hellboy. But the 57-year-old actor says there's one role he hasn't had the chance to take on, and it's not what audiences might expect.

"I would love to be a romantic lead. Just boy meets girl — but I am getting a bit old for that, so it may be man meets woman," Kim told People.

For Kim, the desire is about more than a genre shift. It's tied to a long history of how Asian men have been portrayed in Hollywood. "Traditionally in America, someone who looks like me does not get the girl," he said, explaining, "I'm so glad to see that changing. I really hope that's a barrier that not only our community breaks, but one that I get to participate in breaking."
