Regenerative farming: the future of agriculture

AgriPulse

July 2025

One of the largest industries working on technological advancements towards sustainability is the agricultural sector. The reason for this is simple: agriculture relies on the natural resources of our planet.

- Natasha Pretorius, ProAgri

It is estimated that 33% of the world's viable land is weakened. Regenerative farming rebuilds degraded soil through the increase of organic matter and microbial activity.

These practices can offset 5 to 20% of global CO2 emissions annually to help combat climate change. It works across climate regions and farm sizes, blending traditional knowledge with modern technology.

From smallholder farms to large, commercialised farms, regenerative farming is adaptable and does not require expensive infrastructure - unlike industrial agriculture, which often depletes resources.

What is regenerative farming?

This approach focuses on restoring and improving soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystems while still growing healthy crops.

Environmental damage is actively repaired, as key practices include minimal soil disturbance, cover crops, crop rotation, pasture management, and reduced chemical inputs.

These combinations are key to bigger yields and healthier crops.
