Playing fields will be back for 26/27 season, says boss

Coun Kimberley Whitehead made the promise to Baxenden Tory councillor David Heap who had claimed work on Accrington's King George V Playing Fields appeared to have stalled.

In January, she had told a meeting of the authority's full council that the green space would be back in use by September next year after being upgraded to tackle drainage problems.

But Coun Heap, elected to Hyndburn Council in February, claimed that no progress was being made on bringing the fields back into use.

He said: "Most people will know that I've campaigned tirelessly on the reopening of King George's playing fields well before I was even elected to represent Baxenden.

"Since being elected I have asked on three separate occasions at full council for an update on this.
