Council tightens up anti-fraud policy

Cllr Vanessa Alexander

The authority's resources boss Cllr Vanessa Alexander has updated its ruling cabinet on the new policy.

In a report to its meeting last Wednesday she says: "New offences are created by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023.

“The legislation is applicable from September 1.

“Section 199 creates a new offence that will hold Hyndburn Council to account for fraud committed by their employees, agents, subsidiaries, or other associated persons who provide services for or on behalf of the council.

“The fraud must have been committed with the intention of benefiting the council or its clients.
