ACCRINGTON Carnival was back on the streets on Sunday celebrating its 100th anniversary.

Centenary carnival is TON-derful spectacle

Thousands of people lined the streets to watch the procession which began on Thorneyholme Road and finished at the top of Broadway.

Accrington Pipe Band led the parade just as they did during the first Accrington Carnival in 1926 and were joined by groups such as Accrington Motorcycle Club.

Hyndburn Mayor and Mayoress Cllr Josh Allen and his wife Robyn and Great Harwood's Town Crier Rawden Kerr opened the celebrations.

Wrestlers were due to have a match in a ring but were placed in the procession instead due to the wet weather.

Accrington Stanley wore a collection of different shirts from down the years to mark 100 years of the carnival.

The club's players including Alex Henderson, Tyler Walton and Connor O'Brien attended the carnival.
