SOUTH Shields made it two wins out of two at home as a Tom Broadbent wonder goal in the 68th minute helped the Mariners edge past in-form Scarborough Athletic.

The visitors came into the game after a last-minute midweek winner over Blyth Spartans and were searching for a third straight win.

In comparison Shields conceded a late penalty in their 1-1 draw with Farsley Celtic on Tuesday, so manager Julio Arca was delighted to get over the line against the Seadogs.

“It was a hard game” Arca told The NLP. “We didn’t have many chances, probably one or two. In the second half they started pressing high, so we had to play more long balls. It wasn’t pretty, but the lads worked really hard and luckily in the end with a wonderful goal we got three points.
