RISING BLUE STAR HAVE BIG PLANS!

JIMMY Nail’s ‘Big River’ may not mean much to many people outside of the North-East – but to those within Newcastle it is a sign of local pride.

- Mark Carruthers

RISING BLUE STAR HAVE BIG PLANS!

The anthem focuses on the importance of the River Tyne and what it means to Geordies and was poignantly used to mark the departure of Mike Ashley from Premier League giants Newcastle United just under two years ago.

Just as it had reverberated around St James’ Park on a passion-filled day in October 2021, it also provided a soundtrack to a Tyneside-based NonLeague club enjoying a similar rise to their illustrious neighbours just three miles along the famous Scotswood Road.

Newcastle Blue Star earned promotion from the Step 7 Northern Alliance last season and they are currently putting the final touches to their preparations for becoming the West End of Newcastle’s first Northern League club for several generations.

In a fiercely working-class area, where pulling together has helped them come through challenging times in the face of an absence of support from elsewhere, Blue Star have provided a hub for supporters of all ages and given them something to celebrate in difficult times and forged strong bonds with the local community throughout their rise.
