1874 swoop for legendary boss

IT WASN'T until he spent time away from the dugout that Steve Burr realised how much he missed being there.

If you'd told him he would when he left Hednesford Town 18 months ago, after winning only two league games during an unhappy spell as manager, he'd likely have scoffed.

But the 64-year-old, NonLeague royalty from his days managing at the highest level with the likes of Kidderminster Harriers, Chester and Southport, feels differently now.

"I love being part of something," he told The NLP. "The camaraderie inside a dressing room, or on the training pitch - it's hard to find anywhere else."

That's why he didn't need convincing when long-time pal Chris Herbert, who took charge at 1874 Northwich in April, came calling for an assistant.

Burr had scouting assignments for Championship side Hull City to finish back then, delaying an announcement about his new job until last weekend.
