Haryana leads the way in welfare reforms with schemes imaginatively redesigned to support the vulnerable — women, students, workers, and the marginalised

With a series of pointed schemes and increased financial assistance, Haryana is paving the way for socioeconomic uplift of the vulnerable sections of society through structured support in marriage, education, self-employment, and legal aid. And these schemes have made a difference.

Mukhyamantri Vivah Shagun Yojana

One of the flagship initiatives, the Mukhyamantri Vivah Shagun Yojana, received a significant boost earlier this year. According to the revised policy announced on February 22, 2024, financial assistance for eligible women — including those from Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, and Economically Weaker Sections with an annual family income of up to ₹1.8 lakh — has been increased from ₹31,000 to ₹41,000.

In another progressive move, the government has raised the amount for SC/ST beneficiaries to ₹71,000, and for the widows, destitute, or legally separated women to ₹51,000, making marriage less financially burdensome for many families.

Inclusion has also become central, with dedicated provisions for persons with disabilities. Since June 3, 2020, the state has offered marriage incentives to couples where one or both partners are physically challenged. If both have disabilities, they receive ₹51,000, while couples with one physically challenged partner are entitled to ₹41,000, ensuring dignity and support for differently abled individuals.
