The big movies on TV this week
SATURDAY OCTOBER 4
THE PENGUIN LESSONS
Patridge’s flightless feathered friend
Rialto, 8.30pm
Amusing but lightweight Steve Coogan drama, based on a true story about an English teacher at an Anglophile private school in Argentina in the mid-1970s who adopts a stranded penguin that becomes both teaching aid and college mascot. (2024) ★★★
THE SUICIDE SQUAD
Baddies get badder in better flick
Three, 8.45pm
This sort-of sequel, sort-of reboot to 2016 supervillain romp Suicide Squad was much more fun than its straight-faced predecessor, with director James Gunn bringing the sense of the absurd that made his Guardians of the Galaxy films so amusing. Margot Robbie returned as Harley Quinn and was joined by Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker and the Sylvester Stallone-voiced King Shark among others in their mission against a giant alien starfish. (2021) ★★★★
FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL
Brand’s Hollywood peak
TVNZ 2, 8.50pm
