Although the unemployment rate edged up slightly to 6.7 per cent in March, certain sectors continue to expand, driven by technological advancements and sustainability initiatives. From tech and renewable energy to health care and skilled trades, here are some of the fastest-growing industries—and the in-demand roles shaping their future.

Technology and artificial intelligence

It’s clear that Canada is committed to becoming a global leader in artificial intelligence through substantial investments, including nearly $2 billion announced to support the AI sector. This initiative aims to foster job creation, enhance productivity and maintain global tech leadership. Key roles emerging in this sector include AI specialists, machine learning engineers and data scientists, particularly in tech hubs like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
