The "South-South cooperation" is an instrument of international collaboration between countries that share a certain level of development, within or across economical and geographical regions.

SOUTH-SOUTH COOPERATION

In this nature of cooperation, states create instances of exchange of knowledge, resources and products in order to achieve their individual development objectives through joint efforts. As a result, each state tries to preserve its national political, economic, social, cultural, environmental and technical interests in the negotiations with another country with its own national interests and equal development objectives, fostering self-reliance in the international sphere.

 Aspects of collaboration

The aspects of collaboration differ from agreement to agreement, although they usually aim to bring regions or countries closer together, making improvements possible for all parties involved. At the same time, these agreements pursue the fulfilment of sustainable development goals that enable South-South countries to develop continuously.

The sustainable development goals are present in South-South agreements, and regulate, among other things, the following aspects:

▪ Rebooting Green Growth: through the increased use of renewable energies, seeking to reduce climate change and improving the capacity to deal with its consequences. In addition, financial flows are developed to help make these actions possible.

▪ Gender equality: promoting real equality of opportunities and access in all social spheres, accelerating women’s leadership and empowerment and reducing all types of gender-based violence.

▪ Clean Oceans and a Blue Economy: preserving a clean ocean through a blue or clean economy is important for existing biodiversity in order to reduce climate change.
