ITALIAN GENERAL ELECTION, 2022

After hundred years of Mussolini's March to Rome, Italy again tilted towards the hard right, this time democratically. The Italian General Election 2022 continued the current trend of far-right upturn all-over the EU. With the Centre-Right coalition composing the majority in both Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, hence, as per the prior agreement, Giorgia Meloni representing the Brothers of Italy party is possessed to become the first Female Prime Minister of Italy.

The Italian General Election 2022 was a snap election held on 25th September 2022, after the fall of Mario Draghi's administration. The outcomes of the general election showed the center-right alliance led by Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d'Italia), an extreme-right political party with neo-fascist roots, winning an outright majority of seats in the Italian Parliament. In a record-low voter turnout, Meloni's party became the largest in Parliament with 26% of the vote, making her likely to become Prime Minister of Italy, as per the pre-election agreement among the centreright coalition parties. Political commentators observed that the results altered the geopolitics of the European Union, following far-right gains in France, Spain, and Sweden. The election outcome marked Italy's first farright-led government and the country's most right-wing government since 1945. The newly elected legislature was seated on 13th October and Meloni and her entire cabinet will likely assume office by the end of October.

Compulsions and Constraints before India's Foreign Policy

Although the present leadership in India clearly supports a multipolar world order, the US’s unparalleled ascendance with its self-obsessed approach in international relations has gravely hurt the national interests of poor and developing nations clubbed as the Third World, including India.
