BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER
India and Italy, two culturally rich countries, have a long-standing relationship based on shared values and interests. From trade and investment to tourism and cultural exchange, the two countries have been working closely to strengthen their partnership. The relationship between India and Italy has come a long way since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1947.
Italy, with its rich history and cultural heritage, has always been a popular tourist destination for Indians. Italy, on the other hand, has also been keen to tap into the Indian market, which is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. The bilateral trade between the two countries has been steadily increasing over the years, with Italy being India's fifth-largest trading partner in the European Union.
Trade and Investment
Italy has been a key trading partner of India for decades. According to the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, bilateral trade between the two countries stood at $8.8 billion in 2020. Italy is one of the top investors in India, with Italian companies investing in various sectors such as automotive, energy, chemicals, and food processing.
In recent years, the two countries have signed several agreements to enhance bilateral trade and investment. In 2018, the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable development. The MoU aims to facilitate knowledge-sharing and technology transfer between the two countries.
