BPI report spotlights music habits, interests and priorities of the Y2K-plus cohort

Were reported in April (RC 569) news about the Vinyl Alliance's Gen Z Report and, that month, the BPI and Blackstar music marketing agency did a survey of 500 UK 18-25 years old to gauge their attitudes to popular music. The respondents were sourced by Lemontank marketing/social media researchers, alongside Prolific research, and UK music organisations including Small Green Shoots, Future Yard, Musical Keys, Saving Grace and Operasonic. The results were unveiled on 12 June in a 43-page report entitled Seeking Community - Generation Z's true relationship with culture and music consumption.

Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield, died 20 November, age 63. The bassist was a member of The Stone Roses and Primal Scream. Joining the Roses in 1987 – replacing bass player Pete Garner – Mani’s presence proved a galvanising force as the group became kingpins of the emergent Madchester scene.
