Lest we forget

There's power in not taking what we have for granted and paying it forward with acts of kindness

As I sit and write this, a severe cold front has hit the Mother City.

While typing away at my desk, I keep looking up from the computer screen to the sheets of water making its way down the window. There is no one drop slowly merging into the other before gravity rolls it to the ground along the glass, just one never-ending stream of water. I sit and watch this force of nature from the comfort of my home while wrapped in a blanket (I'm basically a typing burrito at this point), and the gas heater brings some relief from the cold.

Even my dogs are snuggling together under blankets. One is even sporting a little jacket. Earlier, I walked past them in this position and couldn't help but think aloud: 'I wish you two could begin to comprehend how lucky you are'. A quizzical stare was the only acknowledgement I received from them – that and a deeper snuggle under the warm blankets.
