As Ulysse Nardin opens its first standalone boutique in the country, we spoke to Alain Sponem, Chief Operating and Finance Officer of the Sowind Group, of which Ulysse Nardin is a part, on the milestone move and how the brand has developed since its independence
The past three years have seen significant changes sweep through Ulysse Nardin and Girard-Perregaux.
In 2022, the French multinational company Kering sold its entire 100 per cent stake in Sowind Group SA, which owned Ulysse Nardin and Girard-Perregaux, to the brands' management. Since then, there has been a tightening of product portfolios, continued emphasis on innovation through an independent manufacture, and at Ulysse Nardin, the launch of models like this year's path-breaking Diver [Air], the lightest diver watch ever. In 2024, the Sowind Group was also recognised by Deloitte as one of Switzerland's Best Managed Companies of 2024. The recognition rewards private companies who demonstrated excellence in management and sustained business growth.
In India, Ulysse Nardin has been present for more than 20 years, but 2025 marks the year it opened its first standalone boutique in the country. In partnership with Ethos Watch Boutiques, at its City of Time in Gurugram, the new boutique spans 583 sqft, and offers an immersive journey into the brand. With a dedicated history wall, visitors also have the opportunity to not just experience the brand's collections, like Blast, Diver, Freak, and Marine, but also exclusive editions and bespoke services.
Alain Sponem, the Chief Operating and Finance Officer of the Sowind Group, was in India for the opening of the boutique. Sponem, along with Patrick Pruniaux, executed the management buyout, and has since been pivotal in building the brand's vision of innovation and craftsmanship. We spoke to Sponem about the growth of the brand, its strategy, and plans for India.
