IT HAS BEEN said that the best watches are the ones that can be recognised five paces away. This is certainly true of the inimitable Lange 1, which looks unlike anything else with its off-centred dials and large outsized date display. Endowed with a two time-zone function, however, the watch’s fame has literally gone global.

Though aesthetically atypical, the Lange 1 lends itself very well to the two time-zone display: the larger main subdial shows the local time, and the smaller one, the away time.
