IF YOU’VE DABBLED in photography, you’ve probably been told that gear doesn’t matter. The idea is this: the camera you use—whether it’s a S$5,000 DSLR or the one in your smartphone—is secondary. What matters, and what determines the quality of a shot, is your style, vision and composition. While we won’t debate the veracity of the notion, we will proffer the following insight.
