A JUICY SWAP FOR SPORTS DRINKS

Researchers at German Sport University Cologne compared water, a sports drink and diluted cloudy apple juice for their effectiveness at providing energy for runners.

They found that the apple juice provided the same energy as the sports drink, with the benefit of being less irritating to the digestive system. While both drinks contained the same amount of sugar—which is important for keeping energy levels up during workouts—the apple juice allowed the intestinal lining to recover more quickly.
