“THE KNICKS BEING in the Finals is like the moon landing,” a deli owner in Ditmas Park tells me while setting up a TV outside his storefront.
Tickets are too expensive, but the team’s championship run is appointment viewing so the entire city has become a screen. You can’t walk more than a few blocks without running into an ad hoc watch party with the game projected onto a random building or wall. Karaoke plans have been canceled along with bedtime. Seeing the game live, in a crowd, is imperative.
