British Egyptologist, Howard Carter, is best remembered for his part in the most famous ancient Egyptian discovery. Howard had always been fascinated by antiquities as a child, especially Eygptian ones. He dreamt of excavating the Valley of the Kings and in the early 1900s, was tasked with supervising a number of promising excavations in Eygpt.

But it wasn’t until the morning of November 4, 1922, that Howard struck real gold with the discovery of the intact tomb of the young King Tutankhamun.

Howard wrote in his journal that it was a “thrilling find for an excavator to suddenly find himself ... on the verge of what looked like a magnificent discovery”.
