ALMOST IDEAL CLAMSHELL

We've seen our fair share of clamshell foldables, from Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip6 to OPPO's Find N3 Flip. While the form factor has evolved incrementally over the years, Xiaomi has decided to shake things up with the Xiaomi Mix Flip.

Xiaomi's first clamshell foldable is an ambitious one, packing flagship-level specifications such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, dual 50MP Leica Vario-Summilux rear cameras, and a large 4.01-inch alldisplay cover screen. Combine that with a 4,780mAh battery supporting 67W wired HyperCharge, LPDDR5X RAM, and UFS 4.0 storage, and you get a device that promises to compete with the best in the market. For a first attempt, Xiaomi has done an excellent job crafting a refined and premium-looking foldable.

The aluminium frame gives it a solid feel, and the hinge is rated for 500,000 folds outlasting Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip6's 200,000 but falling short of OPPO's Find N3 Flip's 600,000. If you unfold the phone 100 times daily, it should last around 13.6 years. One minor drawback is the glossy finish, which is a fingerprint magnet. The hinge itself is well-designed, sitting flush with the phone's body when closed and not protruding excessively. The Mix Flip boasts a 6.86-inch LTPO AMOLED main display with a 1.5K resolution, a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. The crease, while still present, is only visible at extreme angles.
