From bucolic English scenes to Ottoman landscapes, panoramic wallpapers offer a whole world of possibilities, finds Arabella Youens

TOTTY LOWTHER has a background in film sets, so it’s perhaps not surprising that she was taken with the possibilities of using digital printing to create large-scale, dramatic, panoramic wallpapers. 'A bit of theatre has always been a huge part of my work as a set decorator,' she explains. She works with anything from an 18thcentury watercolour to scraps of silk for inspiration. Designs can be scaled up to cover vast expanses and produced in different colours and substrates from grasscloth to faux silk.
