THROUGHOUT HISTORY, there have been multiple spin-offs that become popular in their own right.

Frasier is arguably the gold standard, spinning off from Cheers and running for 11 successful seasons. The Marvel Cinematic Universe, too, is another candidate with multiple branches like Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther. Hublot's Spirit of Big Bang is a strong contender.

Spun off from Hublot's iconic Big Bang collection in 2014, the Spirit of Big Bang shared several elements with its sibling. The H-shaped screws stayed on. So did the layered construction method and the type of materials used. The most important difference, however, was the case shape. The Spirit of Big Bang dispensed with the round case for a barrel instead. The watchmaker wanted to pay homage to horological traditions; the barrel is a nod to the Art Deco aesthetics of the early 20th century.

A decade since its introduction, the Spirit of Big Bang has written its own story. Hublot releases two new chapters that we explore below.
