A suite in Belvoir Castle is enveloped in de Gournay’s new chinoiserie wallcovering, aptly named for the Leicestershire manor.

A CLASSIC REVIVAL

De Gournay reimagined the 300-year-old chinoiserie wallpaper in the castle's "Wellington" suite (above) in apricot (left) and pistachio (below) schemes based on archival records; its contemporary counterpart adorns an adjoining bedroom (p. 70) by Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler's Emma Burns and Philip Hooper (right).

If you've sensed a recent uptick of chintz in these pages, then you're on to something. Anglomania is once again sweeping the design world. It's no surprise then that a trio of new design collections-from global giants de Gournay, Farrow & Ball, and Designers Guild-takes its cues from the very English spirit of preservation.
