A WORLDLY COUPLE MAKE AN ELEGANT MOVE IN THEIR HOUSTON HOME

- KRISSA ROSSBUND

TIMELESS IN TRANSIT

Here today, gone tomorrow. That's how Susan and John Dabbar roll. Throughout their 43-year marriage, they've moved 30 times for John's job. That has landed them on three continents and in four countries, including seven stints in Houston.

As such, the process of outfitting a home bears no burden to the couple, especially for Susan, who worked as a designer with an emphasis in naval architecture at one point. Their only challenge was to find someone to execute the sophisticated vision that a couple with international influences emanates.

imageThey eventually discovered the talents of Benjamin Johnston. Susan met the Houston designer through a friend and instantly connected with his energy. She was confident he could translate her ever-evolving style. “We grow when we travel and meet people and live life,” Susan says. “They all influence my outlook and how I see the world. I knew that Ben would be able to interpret my aesthetic story in this moment. When we move again, that will likely change, too, because I'll have new experiences that add to my story.”

imageBuilt in 1992, the Dabbars' house boasted robust Texas bones. The interiors, on the other hand, were drab and dated. For Susan and John's home, Johnston committed to a scope of Elegance and intention by appointing components that undoubtedly supported the couple’s taste and appreciation for finery and relics of history.
