An eclectic masterpiece by Shimona Bhansali blends Indian and European influences to create a vibrant, maximalist home

Everything about the Khokhani residence is a beautiful story of organic synergies coming together to create something larger than life. Perched on the 58th floor in Mumbai, this two-bedroom home was designed by Shimona Bhansali of DesignHex for Sangini and Kalpesh Khokhani, who live here with their son. "We envisioned a home full of colour, blending vintage charm with natural elements," says the homeowner duo. This fusion of tastes sought an energy that would bring their vision to life - and that's when Shimona was seen as the perfect fit for the project.

"The clients found us through one of our projects that really resonated with them. Their warm, sincere email and genuine enthusiasm made it impossible to decline," recalls Shimona with a smile. The design language was already aligned, as were the collaborators. Even the site seemed part of this harmony: a 1,700 sq ft, bare shell offering stunning views of both the city and the sea. With a clear composition of ideas, the home needed to be vibrant and eclectic, yet cosy, homely, and inviting qualities the homeowners were keen to emphasise. One guideline, however, was non-negotiable: minimalism was off the table.
