Having interviewed many designers and architects, there is rarely one that manages to surprise me. Speaking to the self-effacing - Mangesh Lungare was indeed an unexpected experience. For someone so young, he has lived through vastly different chapters of life, ranging from a rural upbringing to waiting tables in London to setting up a successful architecture practice. He bellies all preconceived notions and reveals himself as a young achiever, who has lived many avatars and brings the wisdom of that life experience into his outlook and work. The spaces he creates are contemporary, with clean lines and neutral palettes, however to me what stands out are the material palettes he works with. They consist of mostly unexpected combinations of natural materials, which are always put together in a luscious ensemble of textures. He starts by opening up about his happy childhood in Dudhalwadi, a remote village in Maharashtra.
