Seasonal Switch Up

|October 2022
It's time to get your home ready for the onset of the colder autumn season and here are some tips on how to make it cosy and maybe make some savings along the way too!
-

ALL FIRED UP
With autumn around the corner, now is the time to ensure your wood-burning stove is prepared ahead of the colder months. Arada's Director Jon Butterworth advises having your stove professionally serviced and swept. I'd advise having this done at least once a year, so aim to organize it at the start of autumn if you haven't already had it done. This will result in your stove working efficiently and safely, whilst preventing the build-up of soot in the flue or chimney, which if not properly maintained can cause a fire.'
WINDOW DRESSING
A set of heavy curtains can block drafts of air as the nights turn colder. Open your curtains and let the sunlight in during the day to make use of this free heat. The sun usually sets at around 4 pm in the height of winter, so to make the most of the natural warmth keep your curtains open until around 3 pm.
SOFA SECRETS
It might feel great to have your favourite seat in front of the radiator, but it's absorbing heat that could be warming your home. By moving it away from the radiator, hot air can circulate freely. The same goes for your curtains or drying clothes - keep them away from the radiator so that you can get the most out of your heat source.
