Beautiful Brownsea Island is just a 20-minute ferry ride from Poole Quay, but feels a world away from the bustle of the mainland. This nature reserve is home to rare red squirrels and is made up of diverse habitats including heathland, woodland and lagoon - and St Mark’s Bothy is a characterful base from which to take full advantage of the destination. The beachside accommodation likely began life as a dovecot in the late 1800s before being adopted as the gardener’s cottage for nearby South Shore Lodge.
